  1. Education
    A Project Manager must be able to read, write, prepare reports, make plans, and understand new concepts to make beneficial decisions. 
    The educational criteria for PMP® certification can be either a four-year degree (or global equivalent) or a secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or global equivalent).  This can be in any discipline.

  2. Experience
    A Project Manager is responsible for successfully initiating a project. They must also take care of the planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling, and closure of a project. A PMP® must understand the responsibility and possess managerial and leadership skills.
    To meet the PMP® eligibility, a secondary degree holder must have at least 7,500 hours of experience in leading and directing projects. A four-year degree holder can become eligible with a much lesser experience of 4,500 hours, in leading and directing projects. 
    Note that the project management experience should be earned in the last eight consecutive years. The PM must also have experience in all domains of the project, from initiation to closing. 

  3. Training 
    Getting a PMP® certification is not easy. In addition to 35 hours of project management education, and working on live projects, one also needs to pass the certification with at least 60PDUs, which requires guidance and training. How to Get Your PMP®
Earning your PMP Certification is a commitment, and that’s why it is valuable. Do you have real-world project management experience that’s led to success? Great—you’ve finished the hardest part. 

Before you apply, make sure you meet of the following sets of PMP Certification requirements:

  • A four-year degree
  • 36 months leading projects
  • 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification
    — OR —
  • A high school diploma or an associate’s degree (or global equivalent)
  • 60 months leading projects
  • 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification

CERTIFICATION
PMI’s Project Management Professional (PMP) credential is the most important industry-recognized certification for project managers. PREREQUISITES FOR PMP® EXAM
Higher education One of the primary prerequisites of PMI’s PMP® credential process is education level. Professionals must possess a high school diploma or GED and an associate degree. At this education level, applicants must have five years of project management experience prior to qualifying for the PMP® exam. If a project management professional acquires a bachelor degree, the experience prerequisite is only three years of project management work.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE
Relevant work experience as a project manager is also one of the prerequisites for applicants to be eligible to take the PMP® exam, ultimately resulting in PMP® credentials. Along with higher education degrees, professionals must obtain three to five years experience as a project manager and log from 4,500 to 7,500 hours of direct work on projects. Project manager hours will vary based on a professional’s education level. PMP® Training Before an applicant is eligible to take the PMP® exam, she must participate in 35 hours of training as a project manager. PMP training courses are available through PMI, private organizations and at institutions of higher education globally. EXAM COMPLETION
The final step of the PMP® credential process is passing the PMP® exam. The 200-question test covers the knowledge areas of project management, including human resource management and project risk, procurement, time and cost. In addition, the PMP® exam tests each applicant’s knowledge of the core tasks of a project manager, including initiating, controlling and executing a project successfully.

From which certification body I would receive PMP® certification?

PMP® certification is provided by PMI (Project Management Institute) founded in the year 1969.

How many questions are in PMP® exam and what will be the time limit?

180 questions (the previous exam was 200), but the same number of questions will be scored

230 minutes to complete the exam

One additional break for a total of two 10-minute breaks for computer-based tests. No scheduled breaks for paper-based exams.

How long PMP® Certification is Valid?

As PMP® certified professional, you need to renew the certification once in 3 years. The criteria for renewal is
collecting 60 PDUs (Professional Development Units) for 3-Year period. This PDUs can be acquired by delivering management training, attending PMI® or Other recognized training as well attending PMP® chapter conferences.

Can I retake the PMP® Certification Exam If I fail in first attempt?

Yes. One can retake the PMP®
Certification Exam. Re-examination attempt fees for members is $275 and $375 for Non-members.

 

What is the passing score for PMP® certification?

Passing percentage for PMP certification is 61%-62%, but they use a complicated system now which is not based on a predefined passing score. However, it’s said to be close to a 62% passing score.
